This is me.

From the perspective of the diner who chose to forgo their dinner and instead sketch me as I was dining with my family.

It was awkward and completely detracted from my enjoyment of my meal and time with my husband and daughter.

Was this fair?

I didn’t ask to be sketched. And nobody asked me for my permission to do so.

It begs the question… What are a diner’s rights? Should I have said something to the server? If I had, what would they have done? The artist was a customer, too.

Should I have approached the patron directly?  If I had, did I have a right to do so? He was technically seated and was causing a disturbance to no one other than me.

Defeated, I ended up doing nothing. Shortly thereafter, the artist paid his bill and proudly walked over to hand me a gift.

“For you,” he said.

“Thank you,” I muttered.

I left as a very unhappy customer.
