Some people are just meant to help others. It’s as if they wake up, bounce right out of bed and say, “who can I assist today?” I had the good fortune to interact with one of these individuals recently at Target where we purchase many of our bulk household items such as paper towels, napkins, diapers, detergent, etc. I always choose a lane with a cashier rather than self checkout. I enjoy human interaction and for me, it’s just easier.
On a recent trip to procure some of our bulk items I had a memorable encounter with Kee-Kee, so memorable in fact, that it made me want to alert her supervisor. Kee-Kee saw that we had made a purchase of Pampers disposable wipes and that the dollar amount had come in just under the allotment needed for the store promotion. A store promotion, unbeknownst to us. Despite the line of customers that was now forming behind us she informed us that we’d get an entire second box of wipes basically for free. She encouraged me to leave the line, scoop up another box from the shelf and let her scan it in.
Low and behold that second box of wipes, about a $20 value, was free. Thank you Kee-Kee. Thank you for showing up today. Your eagerness to create a positive “Moment of Truth” left us feeling cared for and made us feel like we were the only customer in the store that day, when we very clearly were not.
Employees like Kee-Kee should be applauded, celebrated, given raises and most importantly given career coaching to encourage growth within the company. A career. Please don’t let them walk out your door as a result of an inflexible schedule, a long overdue pay increase, an incompetent manager or a dead-end job. Customers, like us, are forever grateful for these types of employee interactions and will continue to be loyal to your brand, and will continue shopping in person for this very reason.
