January is a pivotal month for most consultants and for me it is no different.
Budgets turn over. Decision makers are back in the office. What happens in January can set the tone for the entire year.
It’s also a time where as a business owner (and as a person), I can start to put a lot of pressure on myself. Sound familiar? While I had a fabulous month in terms of revenue, I had a terrible month in terms of self-care and this isn’t sustainable. It’s only the beginning of February and I’m exhausted.
I certainly hope the rest of the year isn’t the crazy rollercoaster (of emotions) that this past month has been.
The lows:
*A meaningful teaching assignment fell through after a bunch of prep had already taken place.
*I proactively parted ways with one of my top clients from last year as a result of a shift in scope of work and it not filling my cup anymore.
*A recurring client had to unexpectedly remove a training date from my calendar that I was excited about.
The highs:
*Began a 3 month assignment with a client that I had last worked with in 2017 and have already made a sizable impact.
*Received a kind referral from someone that I was last in contact with in 2015!
*Received a kind referral from someone who I just met recently but feel like I’ve known for years.
*Facilitated 2 in-person workshops for two new high energy clients.
And I won’t bore you with the many in-betweens. There’s too many to list!
I’m challenging myself to focus on the highs for the remainder of Q1. And to intentionally block out time for self-care.
Q: What high are you celebrating from this past month?
