Are you headed to someone else’s house this holiday season?

Making a great first impression as an invited guest will bring joy to the host and will ensure you receive a repeat invite. Here are my “Five Diamond” suggestions to be sure you stand out in a positive way.

1) Ask what would be helpful to bring and follow through. Don’t bring a dessert if you are told to bring a side dish and vice versa. And don’t show up empty handed.

2) Arrive on time. Not early and not late. (and be sure to not overstay your welcome as well)

3) Bring your own food if you have dietary concerns and/or serious food allergies.

4) Discuss neutral topics only. No politics, off-color jokes or praise for the Dallas Cowboys.

5) Offer to help in the kitchen in between courses and post meal. Eating and running is acceptable if you have young kids or a second stop.

6) Be appreciative of your seat, if it’s pre-assigned. It’s one of the toughest jobs as host and impossible to please everyone.

7) Bring your own Tupperware for leftovers.

8) Send a thank you note or reach out via call/text to emphasize your gratitude for a lovely evening.
